TONY BLAIR INSTITUTE FOR GLOBAL CHANGE – GENERATION GLOBAL

Generation Global is a pioneering global education programme for 12-17 year olds, under the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change. By providing global learning and dialogue opportunities, it helps young people to be resolute in the face of narratives that may feed into the development of violent extremist ideologies. Suncity School joined this initiative in 2013-14 and, has, since then held 14 video conferences with international schools.

2017 - 2018

A Video Conference was held between Sun City School, N.K. Bagrodia Public School, Rohini, Meerut Public Girls School, and Pioneers High School, Quetta on August 28, 2017, as part of Tony Blair Faith Foundation’s educational initiative, Generation Global.

The Facilitator of the Video Conference, in his report observed that - One suggestion of a learning opportunity is for students to further engage with the insightful comment made by a student at Sun City World School, who said: 'It is important for each of us to be aware of our own privilege. Hate is not linear, and hate is not obvious. It is often subtle. It is important for each of us to be aware of our own biases, and not to be bystanders to hate speech'. Selected students of Grade X participated in a video conference held with schools in Italy, Indonesia and India as a part of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation’s Generation Global initiative. The session was held on February 1, 2017 and the topic of the discussion was Freedom of belief. The discussion was held for a duration of one and a half hours. This meaningful interaction provided a wonderful platform for the students, from participating countries, to learn about each other’s culture and nations’ policies centred on fundamental rights.

2016 – 2017

Our students had a video conference in November, 2016 , with students from Loreto Mandeville Hall, Australia on the topic - “The impact of story-telling in our cultures.”

The participating schools shared a healthy dialogue by sharing stories from their culture. This was followed by a reflection session on the similarities and differences in the messages, as well as the stories (and what they might teach about the faiths & communities or cultures from which they come).

A Video Conference on Essentials of Dialogue-Community, was held on 29 August, 2016. The facilitator was Mr. Eyad Abdel Aziz from Jordan. The students enjoyed communicating with one another and some key factors discussed were the diversity and acceptance of others, mutual respect and India being the largest democratic country. The video conference ended with a virtual showcasing of musical talents from both the participating schools - Suncity School and SMAN Bandung, Indonesia.

The first Video Conference on the theme ‘Hate Speech’ was held on 12 August, 2016. The participating schools were - Suncity School, Gurgaon, City Montessori School, Lucknow and two schools from Indonesia, SMAN 1 Padang and the Dian Diaktika Islamic Senior High School.
