Educational trip to Akshardham Temple

Venue: Akshardham Temple – Delhi

Educational Trip: Integrated Subjects - Mathematics and Languages

This visit gave students an exposure of real life application of Mathematics (AP/GP, Functions, Circular geometry) in Architecture and Design in our country’s evolving culture, ancient architecture, priceless heritage, and timeless spiritual messages.

The Akshardham temple trip provided an opportunity to learn Sanskrit, an ancient language that has played a vital role in shaping Hindu culture, religion, and philosophy, The Akshardham temple was a perfect place to immerse oneself into Indian culture.

The temple's architecture, art, music, and dance are all inspired by Indian traditions and history. Students gained a deeper understanding of Indian culture, its regional diversity and linguistic variations, and how it has evolved over time.

During the visit students witnessed ‘Functions’ (an important mathematical concept) as a real life application in construction , architecture and design for an example fountains – with turning points, vertex and maximum height, curvature of paths (circular geometry). Symmetry in architecture and monuments (Associated with arithmetic and geometric progression)

We were not allowed to carry mobiles to take pictures inside the temple

Student’s reflection:

Exhibition “Nauka Vihar” was very appreciated by the students which consisted of extensive information about our ancient culture, mathematicians, scientists, innovations, astrologers and their contribution for the world.

Application of AP - GP was experienced with a visual approach by visiting the temple structure. Students understood the concept and application of AP/GP in construction of a monument.

Students learned how Trigonometry in right angled triangle helps us to calculate the height and distance required for construction of any building with respect to angle of elevation and depression to maintain the symmetry and design.

After learning about these values and beliefs, students developed a deeper understanding of the India's religions and the role they play in shaping cultures and societies. The temple's message of universal love and unity also inspired students to be more compassionate, understanding, and respectful towards others.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Suncity World School and our Director, Ms. Rupa Chakravarty, for extending the learning opportunity through this trip.

We would also like to thank all the administrative and teaching staff of Suncity World School, who have directly or indirectly contributed to this educational trip.

Thanks and Regards
