‘Leprosy is something we need to fight with together to make this world a healthier place to live.’

Our students of grades VII and VIII had an enriching session with Ms. Chhavi Sharad and Mr. Subhojit Goswami, our special guests from The Leprosy Trust Mission India, New Delhi on Friday, 24^th February 2023.

The guests shared their vision of zero leprosy and spread awareness about Leprosy, ways to deal with the patients and support them with care and empathy.

The speakers also informed us on how this is spread and who are the most affected people in society. Many of those affected don’t complete treatment or don’t receive it at all, even though the WHO has a program that provides free treatment. Due to the continued stigma against people with this situation, they may not seek help when the first symptoms appear, causing delay in diagnosis and development of disabilities.

Girls and women affected by this, face the added issue of gender and social discrimination, which may also delay detection of the disease.

Overall, it was an informative session.
