Speakers or special guests: Mr. Ajay Gulati and Mrs. Kanika Gulati (parents of Laksh Gulati of grade VII-G) are experienced architects, entrepreneurs and owners of the company ‘Architectural Direction’.

Objective of the event:

To help students -

• understand the practical application of the topic-area and perimeter
• interact with the experienced architects related to the concept
• aspire the budding architects of the future
• explain the construction or structures of the famous buildings all over the world.
• recognize and apply their new knowledge in the real-life applications related to area and perimeter.

About the event: The students of grade VII learnt about the topics ‘Area’ and ‘Perimeter’ as a part of their mathematics curriculum. In order to help them to understand the practical application of the topic, the parents of Laksh Gulati of grade VII-G, Mr Ajay Gulati and Mrs Kanika Gulati were invited to give a brief presentation about the application and use of the topics area and perimeter in our daily lives.

Mr. and Mrs. Gulati are experienced architects and run their own company by the name ‘Architectural Direction’ which deals in the landscaping, interior designing, project management and construction. They have won many awards like the most innovative architect brand of the year, woman of stone award etc.

Their presentation started with the explanation of the meaning and difference between area and perimeter, how different units are used to calculate both and the difference between the interior and exterior of the 2D and 3D figures. They also presented a small animated video on how the area of the walls is calculated while painting the room and the cost involved in it using different maps and drawing of the various parts of the house like living room, drawing room etc. Mr. Ajay discussed how the structure of the new buildings different from the old ones, the special kind of techniques used to build the structure. He showcased some famous buildings of the world like National Museum of Qatar, Apple Park, Shanghai Tower, 432 Park Avenue etc. He also discussed how technology is used to build the modern structures.

Outcome of the event: It was great learning experience for all the students especially those who aspire to become the future architects. Students understood the practical aspects of using the concept of area and perimeter in our daily lives and were able to interact with the experienced architects.
