Visit to IITF – Pragati Maidan, New Delhi

On 25th November 2022, Commerce and Humanities students of grade 11, visited the 41st India International Trade Fair, organised by the India Trade Promotion Organisation at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The trade fair was a wonderful opportunity for students to understand textbook concepts by seeing their real life applications.

The students witnessed an amalgamation of the tenets of Business Studies, Accountancy and Economics at the fair. The theme of the event was 'Vocal for Local, Local to Global'. The students visited the SEBI Pavilion where they learned about the fundamentals of the share markets and then put their knowledge and understanding to the test by participating in a quiz. They also saw the exhibits by Steel Authority of India Limited, Goods and Services Department and Income Tax Department, among others. The fair involved participations from both Indian and international organisations. The students visited Hall 4, which had stalls by MSMEs and Foreign representatives. They interacted with the business owners and sales representatives to ascertain the various commercial requirements involved in the setting up and running of a successful business enterprise, such as, the costs incurred, sales, GST rates on different products. They also inquired about the impact of the pandemic on sales. They got to learn about Indian handicrafts as well as those from different countries such as Thailand. Following the trip, the students answered questions on a worksheet about their experience to further analyse and draw meaningful conclusions from the information gathered through their observations. 

The India International Trade Fair (IITF), an annual magnum opus of India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) is one of the largest integrated trade fairs. 

It had a wide spectrum of Business, Social, Cultural and Educational Dimensions that were weaved together where visitors and exhibitors, media persons, marketing professionals, etc could source their needs and objectives. A number of Government organizations (Indian Railways and SEBI) used this platform to spread awareness about their programmes and policies among the public. Some of the glimpses-

In conclusion, the students thoroughly enjoyed themselves while learning about the conduct of Business, Indian handicrafts and Commerce in general.
