Sensitizing children about the environment and sustainability at an early age help them acquire the knowledge, skills and values necessary to support the transition to a more sustainable world. Hence, it is imperative that they should be aware of the Sustainable Development Goals, adopted by the United Nations, for the well-being of the Earth and every living being that it nurtures.

Keeping that in mind, World Biofuel Day was celebrated on Thursday, 10th August 2022 by the students of Grades I and II .The importance of biofuels, which are produced from animal waste, algae and industrial and agricultural waste, was highlighted. The students were educated about Sustainable Development Goal 7, which ensures access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. The meaning of the word "sustainability" was discussed with them .The children were told how biofuels and clean energy work by producing power without having negative environmental impacts, such as the release of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide .

The session commenced with students doing a small activity in the classroom where they were asked to switch off all the power points that were not in use as an initiative to save energy.

Another activity was carried out to teach children about the 3Rs for sustainable development (reduce, reuse and recycle) and waste management .Two bins, labelled as biodegradable and non-biodegradable, were placed in the corridors, and children were taught to segregate and throw the biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste in separate bins.

The lesson was concluded with a poster-making activity in which the students illustrated and drew their creative suggestions for using renewable energy. They discussed ways to use hydroelectric power, solar power, solar cookers, and battery-powered vehicles to reduce air pollution. It was a fantastic learning opportunity.
