Theme- ‘Defining and Understanding Academic Rigour from a Learner’s Perspective’

Letter with information and link to registration was uploaded on Campus Care for all parents of grades VI-X. A poster on the same was forwarded on the parents groups across all classes reminding parents to register themselves. We also made announcements in the assembly for the students to be aware of the program. The final poster with the panelists’ credentials and other particulars was circulated as well. Fifty nine parents registered across all grades using a Google form and this is the highest registrations we have received so far. The event was Facebook live and the link was shared as well.

Following three speakers spoke on the panel-

  • Ms. Anita Makkar- Education Leader and Principal at The HDFC School
  • Prikshit Dhanda- Chief Strategy Officer, MINDLER
  • Senthil Kumar- Senior Director - International Sales & Business Development at Global University Systems

The welcome address was given by the Director, Ms. Rupa Charavarty and the three panelists were felicitated by her.  Ms. Soma Ma’am moderated the session and was very effective in the role as she understood the audience very well and at the same time knew the panelists’ expertise and domain completely. Each speaker presented their perspectives on what academic rigor means for them, how assessments and academic rigor is connected, whether national curriculum were perceived as having more rigor. Ms. Makkar spoke from her vast experience of heading schools and observing many high school learners taking varied career paths. Mr. Kumar gave very valued points in stating that there has to be more link between school education and college education. Mr. Dhanda stressed on the fact that parents, by and large, have a fixed mindset w.r.t international curriculum and that has to be addressed first. He also pointed to the new roles that are evolving in the workplace and the kind of passion required to fill these roles. He categorically laid stress on IBDP and Cambridge curricula that lead to broad based learning in students.

Going forward, we would be sharing the recording with parents by putting it up on YouTube so that parents who couldn’t join us may also have access to it. Since, we had very few parents who joined us in the auditorium despite registering with us, it is decided to have online Conspectus henceforth.
