CBSE National Science Exhibition 2019-20 Report

The National Science Exhibition 2019-20 was held at Suncity School, Gurugram from 16th to 18th January 2020 with an objective of inculcating a scientific attitude and research-mindedness in students.

The students of CBSE affiliated schools (Class VI to XI) prepared research based science projects that are original, innovative exhibit/model on any of the above listed six subthemes of the main theme “Science and Technology for Sustainable Development with a Thrust on Water Conservation”. Every school chose one sub theme and displayed their exhibit which was either a static or a working model. These models can be used for learning various scientific concepts.

The event saw a participation of 585 schools from across the country. Each school had a specific and distinguished QR code which was mandatory for registration. These codes contained the details and specifics of each school (school name and address). These registrations were held from 15th to 16th January 2020. A buddy teacher accompanied every school to their respective venues. These teachers also guided the students during the event. The exhibition commenced with an inaugural ceremony on 16th January 2020 at 10:00 hours.

The chief guests of the event were Ms. Anita Karwal, Chairperson CBSE; Dr. Joseph Emmanuel, Director Academics; Dr. Shweta Singh, Joint Director of CBSE’ Ms. Dhriti Malhotra, Principal of Manv Rachna School; Ms. Anita Makkar, Principal of HDFC School.

The auspicious lighting of lamp was followed by felicitation of chief guests by the Director of Suncity School, Ms. Rupa Chakravarty with bamboo shoots and mementos. A panel of 12 esteemed judges, each an expert in their field were also felicitated with bamboo shoots. We had with us Dr. Monika Koul, Dr. A.K Bhatnagar, Dr. Ashima Gogia, Dr. Alka A Singhal, Mr. Partha Narayan Dutta Gupta, Dr. Rani Devi, Dr. S.K. Aggarwal, Dr. Anupama Tiku, Mr Tathagata Chakravarty, Mr. Girish Kathpalia and Dr. Hukum Singh. This was followed by a short cultural program which included Bahar an orchestra presentation and Magnum Opus –‘Conglomerate’ an Ariel show.

The judges then started round 1 of the judgement and 54 exhibits qualified for the second competitive round. On 17th January a workshop was conducted by Ms. Monika Koul expert IRIS review committee for the mentor teachers of participating schools. Mr. Shrey Singh represented IRIS in the workshop.

Round 2 of the selected 54 exhibits was held on 18th January morning and 29 were declared as winners 3/4/5 in each category in no specific order.

The event closed with the Valediction Ceremony starting at 15:00 hours in the auditorium.

The chief guests Dr. Bishwajit Saha Director (Training and skill education) CBSE and Mr. Manoj Srivastava Director (Professional education) CBSE addressed the students. Dr Puskar Vohra Jt Director Academics CBSE and Dr. Sweta Singh Jt Director Academics CBSE were in attendance. Special invitees present were Dr. Girish Choudhary retired professor Lady Irwin College and Ms. Sharon Director IRIS National forum.

Invocation Dance –Rudraksha, Glimpses of CBSE National Science and a video presentation was followed by prize distribution.

Each of the 29 winning exhibits were awarded a cheque of 5000/- and National winners CBSE certificate. The ceremony ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sweta Singh followed by the National Anthem.

An intellectual learning experience altogether.
