Earth Day (Grades I and II)

“We are on Earth to take care of life. We are on Earth to take care of each other.” Xiye Bastida

The children of grades I and II celebrated ‘Earth Day’ on Monday, 22nd April, 2024. Earth Day is celebrated around the world with a beautiful message - “Our continuing efforts in our everyday lives will make this beautiful planet thrive.” Earth Day is a proof that even one person can make a global impact in a positive way.

A quality circle time was held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Discussion related to ‘Sustainable Development Goal 13 – Climate Action’ was held and the children were explained the need of urgent action to combat climate change.

Earth Day posters are an effective means of raising awareness of environmental issues. World Earth Day 2024 focuses on the theme "Planet vs Plastics," spotlighting the critical problem of plastic pollution and its detrimental effects on nature. Keeping this mind, the students of grades I and II participated in a poster making competition. Their purpose was to inspire action, promote sustainable living and communicate the need to protect our planet.

The children prepared captivating posters depicting various environmental issues viz. water crisis, plastic menace, deforestation, increasing use of chemicals etc. and various methods to overcome these issues to restore original state of our mother Earth. The posters made by the students reflected their deep concern towards the environment. Further, they resolved to adopt concrete measures like sustainability, spreading awareness and encouraging reduce, reuse and recycle.

The Earth Day celebration by the students exemplifies the power of education in nurturing environmental consciousness from a young age. By engaging in meaningful activities and experiences, students not only learned about environmental concepts but also embraced a sense of responsibility towards protecting the Earth. As these young learners continue to grow and develop, they carry with them the seeds of environmental stewardship, poised to make a positive difference in the world.
